Let’s discover what’s living beneath the water’s surface on a Let’s Go Mucking adventure! Equipped with rain boots and nets, we will explore the underwater world of the St. Croix River searching for macroinvertebrates and other lake floor inhabitants. **Bring your own rain boots, water shoes, or strap on sandals. We will provide the nets and other supplies needed to collect creatures living in the water. If the water is too cold or if some individuals do not wish to step in the water, participants will be able to use long-handled nets to search the water while staying on dry ground.

Vehicle Admission: Free

Bathrooms: indoor with running water

Where to Meet: By the bathrooms up by the water in the park

Recommended items to bring/wear:

  1. Rain boots, water shoes, or strap-on sandals (to step in water)
  2. Small towel (to dry hands and feet)
  3. Water bottle
  4. Sunglasses

Please register member and list any other family members that will be participating in that field. Price is $5 per family.

Don’t miss out, join us for a picnic at Lakeside Park in Bayport! Bring your family and friends, pack a picnic dinner, and enjoy a night of outdoor fun with your VFC friends. We can eat together, play on the playground, and have fun on a summer evening. 

Special for this night, Limitless Cycling will be bringing adapted bikes for our members to try. If your member would like to try these fun bikes, please bring your bike helmet to the park.  If you forget, they will have some you can borrow. 

This is a family event for all ages and parents and caregivers are expected to stay with their member.  Please register everyone in your family who is coming.  We can’t wait to see you!

Our first summer social for this year, don’t miss out, join us for a picnic in Pioneer Park in Stillwater! Bring your family and friends, pack a picnic dinner, and enjoy a night of outdoor fun with your VFC friends. We can eat together, play on the playground, and have fun on a summer evening.  

This is a family event for all ages and parents and caregivers are expected to stay with their member.  Please register everyone in your family who is coming.  We can’t wait to see you!

10:30 Hike at Stillwater Environmental Learning Center Loop

Come join us for some exercise and to get outside and explore nature. We will be walking the 1.2 mile loop at the Stillwater Environmental Learning  Center. This is an unpaved relatively flat trail behind Stillwater High School. Please join us!

Please park in the parking lot behind the High School and look for the trail sign and our VFC Staff.

Have you discovered the secret world of soil just below your feet? Have you ever learned about soil, what it is, and why it’s important? Come join the Wild Rivers Conservancy to investigate and ‘dig into’ the soil in the St. Croix Watershed. You will have the opportunity to learn about the properties and importance of soil all while participating in a few different hands-on activities. Activities will include exploring and identifying different soil forming factors, learning about the living things in soil, and learning how to texture different soil types.

All equipment will be provided, but we have a limited number of buckets for you to sit on so we encourage you to bring folding chairs if you would like to sit in comfort. Be prepared to get a littlebit dirty and to have lots of fun!

Reminders:
● Dress for the weather.
● Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty (soil is fun, but can be messy!)
● Wear a pair of comfortable shoes (hiking/tennis shoes)
● Bring your own water and snacks, if desired.

Join VFC to celebrate Earth Day at 21 Roots Farm! We’ll take a prairie walk, visit with all the animals, and do an Earth Day planting activity! Fun for the whole family. Don’t miss out, register today!

Did you know that the St. Croix River is part of the National Park Service? Enjoy a private tour of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway Visitor Center in St. Croix Falls and learn all about our wild and scenic river from NPS Park Rangers. We will start with a brief film on the history and importance of the St. Croix River, go on a scavenger hunt of the exhibits, and enjoy a short hike along the river, weather permitting.

  • Be sure to wear warm winter clothing for the hike

    • Snow Pants

    • Warm jacket

    • Hat, gloves/mittens, scarf

  • Bring your own water and snacks, if desired.

Celebrate Winter with Wahoo! Adventures & VFC. Join us at Sunfish Park in Lake Elmo for snowshoeing, hot dogs &  hot chocolate by the bonfire. Tromp through the snow to catch a glimpse of turkeys, squirrels & deer! Then back to the bonfire for a hot dog, chips & hot cocoa. Dress in layers to enjoy time outdoors. Snowshoes available, bring your own if you have them.

Please note there must be snow on the ground to snowshoe, otherwise it will be a Winter Walk.

Enjoy a winter evening with a Luminary Walk at 21 Roots Farm. Use provided snowshoes or walk, the path around the farm guided by ice luminaries. Warm up by the bonfire and enjoy hot cocoa. February 10 from 6-8 P.M.

Make sure to dress for the weather!

Have you tried ice fishing before? Want to try it again?  Wild Rivers Conservancy staff want to see you on the ice! We will be ice fishing at Lake Jane in Lake Elmo and we hope that you will join us. Hot cocoa and cider will be served. Meet at the boat launch..

All the equipment you need will be provided, including fishing rods, bait, and much more. We have a limited number of buckets for you to sit on so we encourage you to bring folding chairs if you would like to sit in comfort.

No fishing license? No problem! Program participants will be allowed to fish at this event without a license for CATCH and RELEASE, due to an educational fishing license waiver with MN DNR.

Remember – We need the ice to be thick enough to go out on to safely do this event! Stay tuned.

  • Windchill can be much colder on the lake than expected. Be sure to wear warm winter clothing.
